The upcoming Full Moon on Sunday, February 5th at 10:28 am (PST) is in the astrological sign of Leo. The ritual involves hand rolling a beeswax sheet into a candle to connect with the fiery energy of Leo. I originally wrote this ritual seven years ago when I was in the midst of creating the Seeds of Shakti Oracle, which is now in its 3rd printing. Since then, I've updated the ritual to include a spread.
Leo is influenced by the Element of Fire, which is known to burn and consume stagnant energy that needs to be released. The Moon is closely connected with the tides, thus the Element of Water. The sacred water of the oceans, rivers, and lakes are purifiers that gently wash away emotions that are being held onto. I love integrating the Elements into my sacred rituals to honour not only the Moon, but also the cosmos.
The Full Moon magnifies the light (boldness, passion, tapping into your creativity, expressing love, connecting with your inner child) and shadow (drama, aggression, dysfunctional relationships, shallowness, stubbornness) characteristics of Leo. If you need to release any of the shadow characteristics then February 5th is an optimal time!
You can do your ritual a day before, on the day, or a day after the Full Moon, as the energy is still potent. You are welcome to use my ritual or adopt parts to help you create your personalized one. Please know that you don’t need to do a ritual for each Full Moon, only connect to the ones that you feel drawn to. Your ritual doesn’t need to be complicated. Can be simple as lighting a candle.
As with any ritual, create sacred space for yourself to connect with your Higher-SELF. Depending on your Full Moon traditions, you may want to light a candle, make a circle, ring a bell; call in the elements, directions + guides, etc. I personally don’t adhere to any rules or guidelines of how to create sacred space. I follow what rises up for me in my heart space, as the energy of each Full Moon is unique, and I want my ritual to reflect where I am vibrationally.
Ritual
I typically use a sheet of blue beeswax to honour the Moon and Element of Water. You can also use beeswax sheets that are white or a different shade of blue to connect with water energy. . .or even red, orange, and yellow to honour the Element of Fire. You can find beeswax sheets at your local craft store or online.
Next, I connect with essential oils that I intuitively feel are associated with the Element of Fire. I’ve got a blend that I made using cinnamon, clove, and bergamot to stimulate my Solar Plexus Chakra, which is also connected to the Element of Fire. If you aren’t able to access beeswax sheets before the Full Moon in Leo, you can always substitute in a regular candle, and add two or three drops of your essential oil blend to the top of you wick. At the end of the day, your intention is the most important aspect of the ritual!
On the wick, I add about 5 – 9 drops of my blend. If you don’t have time to create a blend, you can add a few drops of any essential oil. As I roll my candle, I connect to the energy of the Leo Full Moon by focusing on:
- How can I release energetic imprints from past dramas?
- How can I embrace Leo’s shadow medicine?
- How can I let go of stagnant energies?
If you feel any blockages as you ponder the aforementioned questions, you can release them during the burning of the candle by visualizing the resistant energy going up in smoke & rising into the night’s sky.
You can decorate your candle using silver coloured wire, crystals, shells, mirrors, moonstone, or whatever you associated with the Moon. Please make sure the materials that you add to your candle aren't flammable. If you need detailed instructions on how to roll a beeswax candle, check out YouTube, as there are a ton of great instructional videos.
I recommend burning the candle on the day of the Full Moon, and the day before or after is also fine. You can call in a Fire Goddess that you connect with and/or ancestors. Allow your candle to burn all the way down to complete the release ritual.
To delve deep into the questions that the Full Moon in Leo conjures up, you may want to lay Tarot or Oracle cards. You can use the Leo Full Moon spread to unravel and explore the themes further. Please tag me in your spread on Instagram, as I’d love to know how you connected!
